Why Did The Mayan Civilization Collapse?

The ancient Mayan civilization was ruined because of a simple mistake: they overfarmed their land. The Mayans were avid farmers who grew a lot every year. They farmed so much, though, that the soil ran out of minerals and it couldn't grow as many crops. Every year the amount of crops grew less and less. Finally, some people couldn't get enough healthy food, and became malnourished. These people got anemia, (picture below of a Mayan skull of a person who died of anemia) and many died. The farms produced less and less crops. The people got more and more malnourished. More people died every year, eventually wiping out nearly the whole civilization because of a simple mistake. If the Mayans had not overfarmed their fields - who knows? They might still be alive today.

I think that John McCain and Barack Obama are wrong because we really need a GREAT economical plan to help boost the economy up again. Senator McCain thinks that the government should not get involved. I think he is wrong because otherwise how are the banks going to start up again?

I think that with the taxes, John McCain is wrong because he voted for major tax increases 477 times, and Americans do NOT need major tax increases. This would just kick more people out of their houses and make the economy worse. Obama is wrong because he voted for taxes 94 times also! We need an increase, but not a large one. We need just enough to fix the economy.

For the war in Iraq, I think John McCain is wrong because he doesn't want a clear time for withdrawal of the troops. I think Barack Obama is wrong, though, too, because he wants to just withdraw the troops over a period of 16 months. I think we should fund less and less each month for about a year and a half and then eventually also decrease the number of soldiers in Iraq.

I think that the rich people should have to pay a maximum of 40% of their income but poor people should not pay more than 25% of their income.

United States Economy: How I Will Save It

I think that to fix the economy of the United States of America, the government should take more control of the money. The government should regulate prices of houses, so that if there are two houses that are almost exactly the same, one can't sell for $150,000 while the other sells for $600 grand. I also think that the government should stop spending so much money in Iraq, instead loaning that money to the banks. These banks could then use this money to give people loans and get the economy running again, and then the banks would pay the government back by raised taxes or just by paying. I think that Obama would not do a very good job with the economy because he is too experienced.
